Slovenia is a small country packed with diverse landscapes and endless opportunities for adventure or tranquil vacation, away from tourist crowds and surrounded with astonishing nature. If you are planning a 7-day trip, consider making Slovenj Gradec in Koroška your home base. This lesser-known region offers a peaceful retreat, away from tourist hotspots, and is a perfect staring point to explore Slovenia's most stunning attractions.

Stay at Villa Elizabeth in Slovenj Gradec, where spacious and beautifully designed apartments provide the ideal setting for families and couples. The city centre of Slovenj Gradec was awarded in 2023 for the most beautiful small city centre in Slovenia. The town has also received numerous ‘Best-kept’ awards.
Let's dive into your 7-day travel guide to uncover the best of Koroška and Slovenia!
Day 1: Arrival and Exploring Slovenj Gradec
Welcome to Slovenj Gradec
Start your journey in the charming town of Slovenj Gradec, nestled in the heart of Koroška. The town is known for its artists and numerous cultural and social events. Among the main cultural attractions are the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Koroška, the Koroška Regional Museum, and the birth house of Hugo Wolf (you can try Hugo Wolf’s coffee!). One more thing to see: Perger's Honey Heaven with the rich heritage of honey confectionery, honeybread-making and chandlery crafts.

Stay at Villa Elizabeth
Before you start your town tour, settle into Villa Elizabeth. Our villa boasts four suites, ranging from 75 to 160 square meters — each apartment is thoughtfully designed with modern comforts and timeless elegance. This villa was completely restored in 2022 — every corner tells a story of passionate renovation. Villa also retains its historic charm with original mosaic tiles and stairway dated back to 1906.
What to eat? You should totally try one of the awarded Slovenian best pizzas in Italian bistro next door!
Day 2: Cycling and Hiking in Koroška
Outdoor Adventures
Koroška is a paradise for outdoor enthusiast. Rent a bike and ride along the new Štrekna cycling route, a scenic 35km path following an old railway line. For hikers, the nearby Uršlja Gora and Peca offers breathtaking views and well-marked trails. If you are looking for adrenalin rush Koroška offers the longest zip-line in Slovenia called "Olimpline".
Local Cuisine
End your active day with a delicious meal at a local restaurant, where you can savour traditional Slovenian dishes (you should try Gostilna Murko 1903, one of the oldest restaurant in Koroška with authentic Koroška dishes).
Day 3: Mežica Mines and Gin-Tonic workshop

Explore the Underground World
Embark on a unique adventure with a visit to the Mežica mines. Canoeing or cycling through the mine tunnels is an unforgettable experience, offering a glimpse into the region's mining history.
Gin-Tonic workshop at Villa Elizabeth
Return to Villa Elizabeth for an interesting evening by the fire pit in the private garden — for Gin-tonic workshop where you will craft 0,5L of your own gin. The locals have crafted one of the world's best gin (2 year in a row a second medalist for it's taste!) and now you can try to make your own too.
Alternative ideas? Open a bottle of Slovenian Wine (we have very good wine 😊) and just enjoy in the garden oasis Villa Elizabeth has to offer. You can start a fire, watch a movie under the stars, or book a massage therapist to have a spa evening in your spacious apartment.

There is also an option to book a private chef for dinner!
Days 4-7: Travel guide to Slovenia's Highlights
Day 4: Ljubljana
Slovenia's capital, Ljubljana, is a short drive from Slovenj Gradec (1h 20min). Wander through its picturesque town centre, cross the famous Dragon Bridge, take a ride on the Ljubljanica River. Don't miss Ljubljana Castle for panoramic views! The gastronomy in Ljubljana is exquisite, you will find something to love everywhere.

Day 5: Lake Bled

Spend a day exploring the iconic Lake Bled — yes, that's the one, with the island on the middle (1h 50min drive from Slovenj Gradec). Try rowing to the island and ring the wishing bell, then hike to the castle or Ojstrica for stunning views. Try Blejska kremšnita — google it. 😊
Day 6: Piran and the Coast
Head to Slovenia's coast to visit the charming town of Piran, it has St. Tropez vibes. It's narrow streets, Venetian architecture and beautiful walking zone right by the sea make it a must-see destination (2h 40min from Slovenj Gradec). Once I discovered the Ristolino restaurant and fell in love with their home-making pasta and since than, the Ristolino restaurant is always a go-to for delicious dinner. Beautiful coastline city is also Portorož (meaning Port of Flowers).
Day 7: Chill at Villa Elizabeth

For your last day we recommend some Chill Vibes! Stay in or visit nearby Kope resort (20min drive) and go for a quick stroll in nature surroundings, or if you have spare energy — go for a hike to Ribniška jezera (P.S. in winter Kope is amazing Ski resort and you can make that a ski vacation!). If you want to relax, a nearby Aqualatio resort is a swimming complex with great Sauna world.
